What CBT is

Cognitive behavioral therapy looks at how thoughts, feelings and behavior feed each other. If you think "I always mess this up," you avoid the task, which makes you more anxious, which makes you more likely to avoid it next time. CBT helps you notice the loop and interrupt it.

It is one of the most researched therapies there is, with good evidence for anxiety, depression, PTSD and adult ADHD.

CBT for ADHD

CBT for adult ADHD focuses on practical skills, like planning, breaking tasks down and managing time, and on the self-talk that comes from years of struggling. I keep it concrete and realistic. If a strategy needs perfect consistency to work, it is not a good strategy for ADHD.

CBT for trauma and anxiety

Trauma-focused CBT and CBT for anxiety help you test the beliefs that keep you on high alert, and gradually stop avoiding things that feel threatening but are not. I often combine CBT with DBT, ACT or EMDR.

Sessions are $180 for 60 minutes after a $200 initial assessment. I am in network with Anthem, Aetna and United through Alma, and provide superbills for other plans. See all fees.

Usually a little, adapted to what is realistic for you.

How long does CBT take?

Many people notice change within 8 to 16 sessions, depending on the issue.
