The oldest daughter burnout checklist.

Twelve signs you may have been the responsible one for too long, and a few small places to start. Tick what fits, then print it or save it if you like. Nothing is saved or sent.

The oldest daughter burnout checklist

Tick anything that sounds familiar. This isn't only for eldest daughters. Anyone who became the responsible one early may recognize it.

If you ticked a lot

You may have spent years in a caretaking role you didn't choose. That often builds real strengths: competence, empathy, reliability. It can also leave very little room for your own needs, and burnout tends to follow.

Small places to start

  • Let one thing go undone this week and notice what actually happens
  • Say "let me think about it" before agreeing to help
  • Ask for one specific thing from someone else
  • Notice when you're managing a mood that isn't yours
